Chapter 21
Resourceful
Major Nazario had found Intayr on the rampart walls over the front gate of Entfall. Nazario had a fresh energy rifle with him. He was doing his best to assist taking down the Noxxon horde that was bearing down on them. Night was fading away as the sun ignited the skies above Entfall.
Intayr was coordinating the Undaari defenses from the ramparts now, as their numbers were dwindling. Despite their defensive posture and ranged weapons, the Noxxons were taking control of the fight ever so slowly. The Noxxons had archers and catapults on the shore that were wearing the Undaari numbers thin. Noxxon bodies littered the ramparts alongside the Undaari dead.
Nazario was not sure how much longer they could realistically hold the outer wall. They had to have killed hundreds of Noxxons throughout the night, but it barely seemed to have made a dent in their forces. The Undaari were growing exhausted as well. They needed another plan in order to ward off the invasion. That was when he got an idea. He could take a page out of Jaina’s book.
He departed his station without a second thought, leaving his rifle with Intayr. He knew it would be more effective than the bow Intayr had been using. He wove his way through the chaos and into the inner courtyard of Entfall. Boarding the Inquisitor, he moved straight for the Command Deck.
When he reached it, he saw Jaina and Brandon on the radio trying to communicate with someone. He looked over at Sergeant Piers who was observing from the digital sand table in the center of the Command Deck.
“Who are they talking to?” He asked.
“The Plaintiff. They’re impatient and are wanting to enter the fray.”
Major Nazario sighed. He had forgotten about them. “This isn’t a battle that humans are waging. We are here on a diplomatic mission and will assist only as necessary to solidify relationships, but we cannot wage a war. We don’t know what sort of damage we can cause.”
Brandon looked up from the communications console where he was working with Jaina. “We also d-… don’t know what our weapons might do to the Alackai that is laced throughout the planet. It could ignite the p-… power source and severely damage the area. Anything more p-… powerful than what we have on the ground already is too dangerous. They could not only destroy the people and land but eliminate the only hope for saving our p-… people.”
“Are they not listening to this logic?”
Jaina looked at him now. “Well, unfortunately, we already lied to them to keep them from landing a few days ago. We told them that Sergeant Piers got infected with something, and that no one could land safely. They backed off, but they’ve since called our bluff. They don’t believe our new warnings.”
Nazario shook his head in frustration. “When did that happen? You seemed to have forgotten to mention this detail before. I should’ve been informed so I could handle this. Let me speak to them.”
He strode over to the communications console and waited for Brandon to hand him the headset.
